Our Basic F-Gas Refrigeration Training 3-Day Course provides experienced heating, heat-pump, refrigeration and air-conditioning engineers with an introduction to refrigeration principles, terminology and equipment.

Combining classroom learning with practical exercises, this course is ideal for candidates beginning to work with refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. It can also be used as refresher or preparatory training before undertaking an F-Gas Category 1 qualification.

Basic F-Gas Refrigeration Training Course Overview

This three consecutive day course introduces the fundamental principles of refrigeration and air conditioning, including how a basic refrigeration system operates and how its main components work together.

Candidates will develop their understanding of refrigerants, system terminology, environmental responsibilities and the legal obligations associated with F-gases. Practical training includes pipework joining, brazing, system evacuation, refrigerant charging, recovery and introductory fault diagnosis.

The course is suitable for existing engineers who have recently started working with refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, as well as those planning to enter the sector who already have relevant experience in HVAC, heating or hot-water installation.

This course can also help experienced installers refresh and develop their skills before progressing to an LCL Awards Level 3 F-Gas Category 1 Training Course.

Course Pre-requisites

There are no specific formal qualifications required to attend this course. However, candidates should normally be experienced engineers working within the industry or planning to work with refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.

Certification

Following successful completion of the theory and practical elements, candidates will receive a: CDC Basic F-Gas Refrigeration Training Course Certificate.

This is an introductory and preparatory training course. It does not provide an F-Gas Category 1 qualification or authorise an individual to undertake regulated F-gas work without the appropriate certification.

Candidates who need to install, service, maintain, leak-check, recover refrigerant from or decommission regulated refrigeration, air-conditioning or heat-pump equipment should progress to the relevant F-Gas Category 1 qualification.

After completing this course, suitable candidates may progress to the:

LCL Awards Level 3 F-Gas Category 1 Training Course

The Category 1 course includes formal theory and practical assessments and is intended for engineers who need to demonstrate competence across the full range of applicable F-gas activities.

Completion of this introductory course does not guarantee entry to, or successful completion of, the Category 1 qualification. Candidates must still meet the relevant entry requirements.
